The Denim pinafore

fashiondough-petite-style-blog-fashion-denim-trends-2015
As I mentioned before, I'm obsessed with the entirety of this denim trends this season!
I mentioned that I had found some bargains in Forever 21 recently, and this denim pinafore dress is one of them. I got together with Laura - who blogs over at Smile at Style - the weekend before last to shoot this outfit. I obviously returned the favour and shot pics for her blog too. The weather wasn't exactly on our side when we decided to shoot these pics - we had a few 'gust of wind = hair in mouth' situations and plenty of photos to prove it. But nevertheless we had fun and managed to get these shots. Thanks for a fun afternoon Laura!

Birkenstocks - Office / Bag- Topshop / necklace - Primark

I wore my denim pinafore dress with a basic white T and my Birkenstocks. Ultimate casual cool ensemble, IMO. The main reason I love denim so much is because it's so versatile; this pinafore would work with a printed blouse, knitted jumper or any other type of T-shirt underneath! I will definitely be teaming this dress with chunky platforms in an attempt to emulate the 70's trend for an evening look this summer - perfect for all those summer BBQs?! When Summer finally decides to show up, of course.

Who else is a fan of the denim pinafore?

Denim Rules!

Denim Rules!

Denim Rules! created in Polyvore.

I'm ever so slightly obsessed with this Seasons' denim trends - especially button down denim - but as someone who is mostly seen donning a simple jeans/-t-shirt combo, or some variation thereof, it hardly comes as a surprise. Button down denim mini skirts have been getting a lot of attention this year - not surprisingly - as they're easy to wear and go with almost everything. I haven't purchased this years 'it' skirt, yet. Other denim trends that graced the SS15 catwalk showed old classic reinterpreted; there were vintage-inspired patchworks, culottes, military chic, 70's inspired pieces and of course, the denim dress - my favourite trend for this season.
We saw the denim dress brought to the fore again this season by the likes of Marques' Almeida, Stella McCartney and obviously, Alexa Chung for AG Jeans. When I first saw Alexa donning that AG Jeans shirt dress - aside from drawing in breath in awe - I knew decided that I needed a dupe. The only problem with the denim shirt dress? They can be difficult to get right. Ones with a belt are best, as they add shape where needed. They can also be tricky for petite girls, like me, to pull off; I'm yet to try on a denim shirt dress that looks decent. A much easier option, in my opinion, is the denim pinafore dress. Big in 2013 and making a steady comeback this Summer. I already got my hands on a purse friendly one from Forever 21, but I've seen many a denim dress on the high street lately and these are my top picks. I noticed that the Miss Selfridge shirt dress recently came back in stock and as I never had chance to try this on I might just have to make a little trip to Miss Selfridge soon!

Forever 21?

I wish!
Even though I'm now well into my twenties, I somehow still find myself going back to (budget fashion heaven) Forever 21. I don't think they actually stipulate an age limit, do they? But, oh to be 21 again. Amiright?! In any case F21's contemporary range is aimed at twenty to thirtysomething women, apparently. And I'm quite a fan I have to say! I understand, as someone in their mid-20s, that it can be difficult to navigate F21 at times - knowing what to buy and what to definitely avoid. But more often than not, I somehow manage to find really cute on-trend pieces which I can probably just about pull off. I say that because I often tend to buy things that would also meet the approval of both my sisters - who are 21 and 15.
The contemporary range really is the way forward for those who want to avoid outlandish styles (not a slogan T in sight); the collection is more sophisticated with individual items in neutral tones, but still remaining trendy and still at a low cost. That's the beauty of fast fashion - whatever the current trends you can be sure that F21 has something on offer. I love the current Forever 21 collection at the moment. Every time I happen to stop by their online store I find a new 'must-have' item which ticks off one of the key trends for this season. This isn't boding too well for my bank balance, despite the whole collection being very purse friendly. I recently made a small on-line purchase which included a super cute button down denim skirt for just £14 - a fraction of the price the one I was deliberating about buying from Topshop. When I saw the skirt pop up on the 'new in' page I just knew I had to have it, and the price certainly sealed the deal. Other items I purchased included; basic t-shirts for easy layering, a denim pinafore, and a slogan T which I promise is more retro than it is trashy. I think that if you're after a few key items to tie in this seasons' trends without breaking the bank, hit up Forever 21 and let me know what you find.
forever21, fashiondough, blog, petite blog,

^ here are the items I purchased - mainly denim - which I have already styled up, so watch out for outfit posts to follow!

Sidenote: Forever 21 now offers free delivery to a store - which I opted for.

I love you,  Forever 21.
