Hey guys! Right, so by having set up my very own fashion blog, it is clear that I have a love of the fashion industry. And what's the biggest event in fashion? Fashion Week, of course!
I always watch live streams of Fashion Week shows, longingly wishing I was there to experience the buzz in the flesh and catch the action live from the FROW. It would obviously be a dream come true if I were to attend.
As a blogger still in the early stages, having the opportunity to attend Fashion Week would not only be the biggest learning curve in terms of blogging, but a HUGE experience for me personally also. The reason I am telling you this you ask, well, Fashion Chickare giving one lucky blogger the chance to attend Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week '14 in Amsterdam! To enter this amazing competition I have created a Lookbook of what I would wear to Amsterdam's fashion week, if I were to attend. Here are my stand-out summer look(s) for MBFWA.
On-trend, casual-cool, ripped knee jeans teamed with a casual t-shirt. I would don my standout, chic, pink duster coat to smarten up this look, and I would throw on my 'barely there' heels to give that polished finish.
I will have to try to avoid any cobbled streets in these heels, or maybe pack some flats in my bag for after the shows?!
I would wear my 'can't miss me' pink skirt, teamed with my 'barely there' heels again to lengthen those legs and give my petite frame some height - I don't want to disappear beneath a crowd of leggy fashionistas!
*Go on, give us a twirl!
I would accessorize my looks with my trusty colour block satchel, which I would fill with the essentials for fashion week: notepad, pen, lip gloss, comb and purse, oh, and my tablet so that I can blog on the go!
Of course I would also need my camera to snap all the goings on at MBFWA!
I'm currently working on a new 'lookbook' post for the blog, but couldn't wait to show you my new duster coat. I ordered this little number from Miss Selfridge and I haven't taken it off since it arrived last week, I love it!
Confession: I have a new love in my life, and it's with my new 'barely there' heels!
I was in need of a new pair of trusty black heels that go with everything. I spotted these heels on the Asos website and knew I had to have them. The shoes are from New Look and are a bargain at £20! They were just what I was looking for: simple, classic, elegant and will go with anything. I love the bow on the front strap too, as it adds an additional dainty element to this 'naked' style of shoe.
Having now worn them, I can say that they're very comfy too!
Cannes is not all about film, it's also known for the red carpet fashion - the part I am most interested in! The stars arrive in Cannes looking polished to perfection, dressed in their designer attire; the epitome of the French Riviera's luxury and well known wealth.
This year is no exception. Stars walked the red carpet and attended events dressed to the nines. Giving us a look at current and next seasons styles for not only fashion, but also hair and make-up looks, which we will no doubt be trying to recreate. But I shall save the hair and beauty looks for another post. The best dressed is what I'm focusing on here, so let's get cracking:
Since Blake Lively's recent Met Gala red carpet appearance, all eyes seem to be back on her; appearing at many events lately, she is definitely a well dressed heel ahead of other celebs in the style stakes. However, Natasha Poly gave her a run for her money when she appeared on the red carpet in Cannes looking stunning in an Osca de la Renta Spring/Summer 2014 number. Black still seems to be a strong colour despite entering the Spring/Summer season, and I love this all black look on Natasha - she even completes the look with heavy black lined smoky eyes. Her slicked back makes sure all the focus is on the stunning dress. The skirt of the dress is the most interesting part to me, layers of lace and tulle build up a voluminous shape, gathered in a knot front emphasising her tiny waist.
Suki Waterhouse looked gorgeous wearing a nearly-white shade of pink, silk, tiered dress. She has had some stunning red carpet looks lately (I loved her Met Gala look), and I love this dress for her; the hair, make up and jewellery compliment the look beautifully (just look at that ring!!), the only thing I don't love is the shoes - I think a pair of 'barely there' strappy heels would've worked better.
Ryan Gosling stole the show as the best dressed male in Cannes. He looked dapper both on and off the red carpet, swooning us in a smart tux on the red carpet as well as in his causal shirt and slacks. He looks good in pretty much everything though, right?
Ryan looked handsome when gracing the red carpet in a Gucci tux, however, with Blake on his arm, she steals the show in her Gucci Premier gown (what else?). Ryan's tux compliments Blake's monochrome gown perfectly, and Blake's hair and diamond accessories keep this look elegant and classic.
The queen of the red carpet will remain, in my eyes, as Blake, although Natasha Poly gave her a good run for her money.
.... just stuff that has made me smile this week. Including stuff from the interwebs.
1. Trying Five Guys for the first time. The burgers are amazing, although I thought it was a tad pricey. They do however sell grape Fanta which is my new favorite thing, so I shall let them off and I will no doubt be returning.
2. This. I'm not sure if my love for Ryan Gosling could be greater.
3. Finding out New Girl is coming BACK. I can't friggin wait for season 3!!! I believe it starts here in the UK sometime in June.
4. Revisiting Liverpool, if only briefly. I miss the city so much and I feel at home every time I return there. Maybe one day we will move back there.
5. Meeting my good friend's baby boy for the first time. He's only a couple of weeks old - we enjoyed a little cuddle, and I had a good catch up with my friend of course.
6. The sunshine making an appearance at the weekend was the cherry on the cake; the sunshine always puts everyone in a happier mood, don't you think? It also meant it was the first day of the year that I braved getting my pale legs out (except for when I was in Barcelona). It feels so good knowing that warmer, sunny days are on the way. I also bought some pretty flowers to brighten up my coffee table. I enjoyed a Sunday morning breakfast of pancakes, berries and maple syrup whilst the sun streamed through the patio doors. It's the little things in life isn't in?!
So during my daily dose of online browsing, I stumbled across Miss Selfridge's 'Guilt-Free Glamour' collection.
After a good old browse, I can honestly say it's a lovely collection, one of the best collections that I have seen online in some time. Yes, there's been the odd item here and there which I've loved, but every item in this collection is worth a purchase! From essential T-shirts to 90's inspired separates, the collection full of pretty, on-trend prices and at at affordable prices too. With most of the dresses coming in at under £25, it most certainly is guilt-free!!
Just a little post about what I got up to this Saturday. I enjoy reading blog posts like this so I thought I would share one of my own.
Saturday began, for me, with a little lie-in. My man was working, so when he got home, I got to whipping him up a nice brunch. We had poached eggs and bacon on toast. Oh, and a lovely mug of coffee!
We enjoyed the rest of the afternoon just chilling out together in the flat, listening to the sound of the rain outside. Later, after the rain, we got ready and headed out to the local pub for dinner. I wore my new River Island jacket. I teamed my new jacket with a pair of glossy black leggings, black ankle boots and greyt-shirt. I also wore a new necklace I picked up in Primark. I love it, and it was a bargain at £4!
After food we headed to the cinema and caught two films: we saw Bad Neighbours and The Other Woman. Both films were equally funny, and an easy-watch. They weren't amazing, just what you expect from an American comedy film.
So I didn't do anything super exciting, but it's an excuse to show off my new River Island purchase (I will do a style post featuring the jacket soon), and also to find out what you guys got up to over the weekend? I might even start doing a weekend post similar to this, who knows?! Let me know if you enjoy this style post by leaving a comment!
Topshop Mom jeans are still my favourite go to, everyday, jeans. I love high waist styles, and I think they're very flattering. Since I am forever in jeans, I need to find a new style that I love as much as these. I'm thinking of purchasing some skinny ripped jeans as I'm currently loving that trend. But being so short, I do find it difficult to find flattering jeans that fit properly - anyone else have this dilemma?
This is how I would typically style my 'mom jeans': with my converse, biker jacket teamed with a lace crop and chandelier earrings for a girly twist!
FYI, I joined Molly's link up, which is a great idea to find other bloggers. You can check out the rules (and her blog) by clicking the link below.
Wow, I can't believe it's been a whole month since I last blogged! I'm not sure exactly how that happened. It's like I blinked and "BAM" a whole month passed and we are now into May.
In my last post I was waving goodbye to my best friend, who is, by the way, having an awesome time in Australia! Her stories and photographs have appealed to the inner explorer in me. I'm craving a piece of that excitement and adventure. However, I've decided to keep a tenacious grip on that hunger I have burning inside, for now, and hopefully one day I will get to travel.
I guess between working full-time, studying for the final year of my course, a city break (which I shall be blogging about) and trying to maintain a 'social life', blogging has been put on the back burner. Not out of choice of course; if I could blog full time that would be the dream. But, I am going to try to make more time to do what I love and shall be updating the blog more regularly!
This post is entitle "little update" so here is what I've been up to/loving this last month or so, illustrated by snaps.
My favourite gowns. Blake dazzled in her Gucci Premier number, Topshop showcased some seriously impressive bespoke gowns, and Emma Stone wore, in my opinion, the best skirt and top combo by Thakoon - that's one outfit I would love to get my hands on.
Finished watching this series. Hands down one of the best shows i've ever seen on TV! A brilliantly written series and even better acting. If you haven't seen it already I would highly recommend that you do.
I said this was going to be a 'little' update, and that it is not. Oops!
