A night at the Ballet // Le Corsaire

I have been a very bad blogger. I am so far behind on posting stuff for you guys, I apologise!
Anyway, I hope this post keeps you interested for now. And yes, this is what we got up to on Valentine's Day, better late than never right?!

So, on February 14th, I was spoilt with a trip to the Ballet.
Knowing my love affair with dance, my boyfriend had kindly booked us tickets to see Le Corsaire at the Palace Theatre in Manchester.
Having now lived in Manchester for two years I am ashamed to say this was my first visit to the Palace Theatre, and what a grand old Theatre it is!

Le Corsaire tells the story of pirates, one in particular, who leads his gang and sets sail to rescue the girl he has fallen for from a slave trader. My other half was pleasantly surprised with the theme of the show, as he admitted he hadn't read anything about it prior to booking. The story definitely made for a slightly more entertaining show. There was even some comedy value thrown in there - I shan't spoil anything for you though.
All the dancers were brilliant, although Yonah Acosta, a junior soloist, was for me the stand-out performer of the entire show; wowing the audience with his scintillating, flawless moves. The costumes were show stopping too - beautiful jewelled colours and glittering with Swarovski crystal it definitely contributed to the superb visual performance.

I loved every minute of my night at the ballet. Even running down Oxford Road in heels like bloody Usain Bolt when we thought we were late and arriving looking very windswept!

Here is a snap of my outfit for a night at the ballet.

This was certainly a Valentine's Day I won't forget in a hurry!

Did you guys get up to anything exciting on Valentine's? I feel like I have been MIA the last few weeks, but I am back and here to stay!

This Weeks Lust Have // Topshop's Gingham Dress

Gingham seems to be everywhere at the moment. I have seen mainly black and white monochrome gingham, so this blue mix-match of gingham prints adds a much needed pop of colour to this trend, and thus making it far more appealing to me.

I love a great A-line dress, being ever-so-flattering, and with the cut-out detail and the style of the neckline the dress is more eye-catching than most A-line styles. The detailing also keeps this style of dress from looking too formal. This dress is a perfect for both spring and summer and you could layer this dress up really well until the hot weather arrives. When it does, I would suggest teaming this dress with a bright yellow or orange clutch to channel that summery vibe, throw on these cute tan wedges and you'll be good to go.

Valentines Date and Gift Ideas for Him & Her

Valentines is right around the corner so I thought I would share with you some gift/ date ideas.

I know Valentines day can sometimes cause a bit of a divide amongst the ranks, but love it loathe it it's happening. You can't avoid it, it's advertised bloody everywhere! And corporations are desperate to cash in on a slice of this lucrative day.

Personally, I don't particularly mind Valentines day. It's a good excuse to spoil your loved one and show them how much you appreciate having them in your life. So, I say embrace it! Single? round up your friends, wiggle into your sexiest dresses and enjoy a night full of cocktails and dancing.

If you are coupled up and looking for something to do, here's my tip: avoid the overbooked & overpriced restaurants like the plague. Stay at home and cook for your loved one - I'm talking a proper slap-up dinner. Grab a bottle of bubbly, cook your delicious food and enjoy each others company. No phones, no distractions.

If I lived somewhere warm I would so do this:

In the morning whip him/ her up their favourite breakfast and earn yourself some extra brownie points! My breakfast of choice would definitely be pancakes. These are typically what I whip up at a weekend: blueberry pancakes, smoked bacon and mayple syrup. Delicious!

Right now onto Gifts:

I struggled to think of a perfect Valentines day gift for him. First up I found this Blazer from New Look; give him an excuse for you to both get properly dressed up and go on more dates!

Why not go all out and add a Bow tie too, I like this one which is also from New Look - which is very similar to the Lanvin version, below.

Finally, you could always go for a bottle of his favourite tipple?

Ok, so I haven't picked anything out of the ordinary here but things don't just become cliché for no reason. Every girl would be happy with at least one of the following:

Flowers, eveyone likes flowers (even when they tell you they don't).

Lingerie. Ok, so this falls into both gifts for her and for him. Two birds one stone and all that!
Agent provocateur is probably the number one stop for a bit of naughty laungerie, but I love Victoria's Secret and at a much more reasonable price, they still have tons of sexy items!

Shop the collection here.

What girl wouldn't want a bottle of champagne to swig whilst picking at those decadent chocolates you also bought? ;)
And last but not least, a lovely scented candle to get you in the mood.

Happy Valentines kids!

Stomping Ground

This weekend has mainly been spent in and around Manchester City Centre, my stomping ground of late. I had wandered around the shops but didn't end up purchasing anything, unfortunately! After an unsuccessful morning I met my friend for a catch-up, but that story is for another day, what we are here  to discuss today is shoes. Actually, boots. My current favourite boots in fact!

I bought these lace-up biker boots a while back from New Look, a bargain not to be missed at only £29.99. I have slipped my feet into these more than I imaged I would; I envisaged that these rough and tough looking boots would only compliment a certain style of outfit. I was wrong. I have managed to throw these boots on with many an outfit: swing dresses, pastel jumpers and smart shirts, and I believe I have got away with it (just). These boots are super comfy and my feet can withstand a whole day of stomping around town in these things, something I cannot say about a lot of my footwear (including my flats!).

As you can see, these boots are well worn in but I still love them. I will definitely be wearing them until their inevitable death, but until then I will continue to cherish them and the 'well worn' look will only add to the grungy edge they bring to an outfit - hopefully!

Fashion News // Alexa Chung for Longchamp

Longchamp have unveiled their latest Spring/Summer 2014 campaign pictures and are set to release the short film during New York Fashion Week later this week, showcasing Brit 'IT' girl Alexa Chung as the new face of the brand.

With a plethora of successful careers under her belt, Alexa returns to her modelling roots in Longchamp's latest campaign, and boy she doesn't disappoint.

This collection has me so excited and, quite frankly, actually interested in the brand. Longchamp has finally got my undivided attention; having not been overly enthused about the brand in the past, this punchy/summery collection has got me considering emptying my bank account just so I can swing that yellow beauty off my forearm a la Alexa! Preferably in the sunny St. Tropez too... a girl can dream right?!

Here are a few snaps from the Spring/Summer 2014 campaign.
